Carpe Diem. Sieze the Day.
We met at the church bright eyed and bushy tailed and loaded up. Ready or not Edge, here we come.
The two hours on the way to Atlanta went by pretty quickly.
My car consisted of Dave Preston (driver), Bradley Houston, Connor Hadden and Micah Johnson. We passed the time in the car by playing the license plate game and attempting to get 18 wheelers to honk at us.
We got 24 out of 48 possible states (not counting Alaska and Hawaii) and got fourteen 18-wheelers to honk for us.
While we were busy entertaining ourselves the girls car was singing their hearts out and I received an interesting text from Jack Birchfield discussing the ongoings in his vehicle.
It reads, "Awesome! Me and Noah are having window rolling down competitions, Hank smeared a bug on the ceiling, and tate is in a cage. Don't ask me what happened, I don't know. Then again some things are probably best left unknown.
We arrived at the Atlanta mall, where we had an hour to eat lunch and shop at some select stores. 3 unnamed boys had their eyes set on getting matching Nike Elite socks the second we entered the mall. Because what guy doesn't love getting matching socks with his bros?
The pair they settled on, I just so happened to bring myself. Cue Kodak moment.
Pretty legit if you ask me.
After finishing lunch and hitting the road for another to hours we had made it. Upon arriving at the Edge the kids were energetically yanked out of the cars and rushed into the gym.
Janna and the rest of the crew entering the gym
Noah hitting a floating baseball
Tate with incredible accuracy
Luke for the reverse layup
And Group Twister!!!
After the initiation was finished and we had unpacked our bags we grabbed ourselves some grub, which was much better than I remember it being.
We headed our separate ways after dinner, the kids to the lawn party and adults to their own meeting, which was where I got my biggest surprise of the day...
I ran into none other than my old youth pastor Jonathan Cook. Haven't seen him since I was in the 9th grade and just about flipped out when I saw him. He drove his church 16 and a half hours from Omaha Nebraska to come to The Edge. They even brought an inflatable monkey named Curry. Made my day.
Following the meeting we headed into the auditorium for more fun and worship.
Wayne Kerr was awesome, per the usual.
They were throwing out candy...and t-shirts. Abby really wanted one
Elijah caught himself a hat.
And Dr Bados returned.
The speaker tonight gave a great message about things and items that bring us short term happiness, but can never be the source of true joy. The source of true joy can only come from continuing to root ourselves into God's Word. And while it is applicable to the students, I find that I myself suffer from the same thing.
After our time of worship we went to the "Thrift Shop Formal Dance Party.
The Boys
Luke lookin' snazzy
The girls
Dancin' the night away.
Welp, my phone has switched to central time for some reason so it reads 11:30, but I'm exhuasted. Continue to pray that God would work in the hearts of the students. I'm really looking forward to what tomorrow has in store.
